Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and missing child alerts
WEA is a new public safety system that enables the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to send geographically targeted emergency warnings to consumers with capable wireless devices warning them of emergencies in their area.
There are three types of WEA alerts:
- Alerts involving imminent threats to life or property issued by the National Weather Service or other authorized emergency management agency
- Alerts issued by the President
- Amber Alerts about missing children
The AMBER Alert program, also known as America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response Plan, is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Justice. It is a voluntary partnership between law enforcement agencies, broadcasters and transportation agencies to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases where there is enough information to make the alert effective.
Wireless Emergency Alerts are currently text based, for AMBER alerts eMBMS can bring considerable value-add by adding photos of a missing child. Visual resources would make a broad search far more effective than just textual descriptions. But also other WEA alerts could contain for example escape routes or assembly points on maps delivered together with the textual alert itself via eMBMS.

One2many’s LTE Broadcast enables efficient, high volume, high quality group calls with low latency.
